Flowers

I used to water our flowers
and trim their leaves up too
I would tend to them for hours
and watch them as they’d bloom. 

I made sure they had food
so they’d stand up nice and tall
I was always looking after them
so they wouldn’t die and fall. 

I was proud of what we grew
and I showed it to the world,
they were all unique some blue some pink
and some with leaves that curled. 

But now they’ve wilted away
and the pedals fully frayed
for only I took care of them
even though you said you’d stay…
